Gender stereotypes are common beliefs in society about what boys should do and what girls do.
Already from childhood, children are taught to behave in accordance with their gender - girls put on dresses and buy dolls, and the boys are asked: "What kind of car do you want?" Often such a choice is not unreasonable - the children themselves choose what to play, but society and parents increase the child’s craving for one or the other, approving his choice if it is “right”.
This is not to say that children are completely deprived of a choice, but sometimes, if a child is attracted to something completely different - for example, a boy wants to play dolls with girls, his parents begin to stop his hobbies, because they are “wrong”. Because of this, a number of problems arise.
Many, growing up, do not even think about why they like this and not the other. Only introspection and the power to change everything helps. Look at this collection - if you also think, then you are the person who was not ignored by gender stereotypes.
10. Girls should be kind and beautiful, and boys strong and courageous.
Children do not know how to behave, but adults tell them. If the boy is crying, he is ashamed, and at school they call him “the girl”. And if the girl is fighting and does not try to be cute - they say to her: "Be kinder, you're a girl."
Psychologist Christia Spears Brown believes that boys and girls should have different toys - for the body, emotions and intelligence. If a boy wants to play with dishes and with dolls - he needs to be allowed to do this, because this game will teach him to take care and be kind.
If a girl stands up for herself and enters into a fight, she does not need to say: “You are a girl”, just say: “Try next time just to talk with your offender.”
9. All women are gossips, but men are not
In society, it is generally accepted that women gather in company and gossip about everything in the world: about Lenka, who changes her boyfriends like gloves, about Petya, who has a mistress, etc.
But, firstly, not all women like to collect gossip, and secondly, some men love to gossip even more than women - they gather in a bar and tell each other about events from their personal lives, about how they “saw them” "Home wife, etc. No one is safe from gossip.
8. Women should stay at home with children, and men should earn money
From an early age, children are accustomed to such duties: a girl helps her mother with the housework, and the boy helps father repair the car in the garage or hammer nails in the house.
It is not surprising that a girl, growing up, chooses the role of mistress and mother for herself - she simply does not know how and is not accustomed to do something else.
If each child would choose duties for himself, then perhaps there wouldn’t be so many housewives - women would work alongside men, and both would be engaged in household chores.
7. The main mission of women is family and children
Until now, even despite the fact that we live in a modern and more or less civilized society, they look askance at a woman who lives alone and without children.
However, if a man is single and he has no family - no one will look at him askance. The main purpose of each person is to do what he wants, not to torture himself and not live according to the pattern. Only in this case, you can find happiness by understanding that it is not someone, but only you are responsible for your life.
6. All men need only sex
It is generally accepted that all men are sexually obsessed, and they do not need anything other than sex. The fact is that if a man is sexually active, it is encouraged by friends and society, he is known as a macho man, and proudly wears this title. He will not lose him!
In addition, men eat a lot, work, and they accumulate a lot of energy that needs to be put somewhere. Sex becomes a way of detente - they don’t need emotional closeness as women do, their goal is to remove the accumulated tension.
Due to the fact that men are not for a long time in search of love and mutual understanding, (which is characteristic of women), but are ready to sleep with those who agree, they are considered obsessed.
5. Gays behave too feminine, and lesbians courageously
The films usually show women in which one of them behaves like a man according to gender stereotypes, and the second as a woman. In the case of gays, everything is the same - one in a pair of “real man” - rude, strong, just “iron”, and the other - feminine, soft.
However, in life everything can be completely wrong - two women in a pair can be very kind and feminine, and men are both rude and strong. Sometimes lesbians and gays are hard to even figure out - they can behave quite normally and wear ordinary clothes. A gay man can work on “male” hard work and everyone will think that he loves women.
4. If a man wears skirts - he is strange
Many men would gladly wear skirts, especially in the heat, but if this happens, they will be considered strange. However, women have a large selection of clothes - if a woman puts on trousers, no one will look at her askance, although before women were forbidden to wear them.
But once a man wore skirts, or rather, in loincloths. Then they felt that it was uncomfortable to ride in horse skirts, then pants appeared (they came to Europe from the Scythians).
In Scotland, seeing a man in a skirt, no one finds him strange. Who knows, maybe one day in men the wardrobe will become more diverse.
3. If a man sticks to a woman - he is a pervert
For some reason, at those moments when a man sits down at a woman in a bar with a desire to get to know each other, hugs her and starts to touch her (of course, if she doesn’t mind) - this is considered harassment, but if a woman does the same, she automatically becomes brave and courageous . And it doesn’t matter that she is several times larger than the man who hid in the corner from her frank harassment!
Sometimes a woman should just try to say “No,” and not panic if a man wants to meet her. Of course, there are misunderstanding men, but the chance that a woman will be watched, molested against her will is not so great.
2. All women are talkers
The phone exists to make it convenient for everyone to contact the right person at any time and at any time. But many people like to talk on the phone all the time - going from work, to work, at home, sitting in a cafe, etc.
And for some reason, they mostly believe that women like to chat, but this is a huge fallacy. You cannot stretch a few words out of some women, and men can speak incessantly. It all depends on the nature, and not on gender.
1. There are male professions, and there are female
There is a belief that women are not suitable for managerial positions, and they have to accept jobs that prevent them from showing themselves as a good leader. There is an unfair gap - for the same work, a man and a woman receive different salaries.
Psychologist Jordan Peterson says that the difference in salary depends not only on gender, but also on upbringing - women are softer and more compliant, so it is more difficult for them to negotiate and seek benefits.
Only a man can become the captain of the ship, as it is believed, but in 1935 Anna Ivanovna Shchetina became the first woman in the world as a captain of long-distance navigation, before that she was a sailor. The main thing is to understand what you want, and never give up your dream.
