Remember the common phrase that everything new is well forgotten old? In fact, it is, and it's not just about fashion trends.
Many modern things were somehow invented earlier, possibly in a different modification. Also, knowledge could be hidden or forgotten for the time being. A few modifications and technological “magic” - and voila, we get innovation.
Today we present 10 modern technologies and inventions that first saw the light long before official recognition.
10. Bras
Convenient supportive underwear was patented in 1914 by Mrs. Jacob, as a substitute for an uncomfortable and hazardous corset. The first bra was, in fact, a pair of handkerchiefs sewn together and additionally tied around the neck.
Relatively recently it became known that the first bra modification already existed in the 14th century. In one of the storage facilities in Austria, 4 samples of a bra of the Middle Ages were found. One option was elongated (descending below the chest) and with lace. Another was decorated with decorative eyelets and needle lace.
9. Vaporizers
Let us return to the works of the ancient philosopher Herodotus. In his book, 5 centuries BC e. there is a mention that the Scythians evaporated hemp seeds on hot stones. The first "device" for evaporation appeared in the 15th century - and it was an Indian or Persian hookah. The first copies were made of wood tubes (coconut or bamboo).
The modern modification of vaporizers appeared in 2003 thanks to a Chinese doctor. But his device was also made on the basis of the first electronic cigarettes of the 60s. And the latter took as a base the old nicotine vaporizers, the patent for the invention of which was obtained in 1927. In such a complex and eventful story.
8. Plastic surgery
If you read the story, then the ancient beauties were very concerned about their appearance. It is not surprising that the first rhinoplasty was performed about 3 thousand years ago, however, on the corpse of Pharaoh Ramses II. A bone and seeds were implanted in the nose of the deceased ruler so that he would be “recognized” in the future afterlife.
In the 6th century BC ancient Indians practiced skin grafting to repair damaged areas. The ancient Romans also took care of their appearance, therefore removing the scars on their back, indicating a "dark" past (slavery, desertion, etc.). And secular ladies could trim earlobes that pulled heavy jewelry.
7. Social Media
You thought the first messenger was Aisikyu? It turns out that back in the 70s, a company of Berkeley programmers used computers to create a message board open to everyone. She worked on weak modems, passing only 10 characters per minute. But, nevertheless, people could exchange useful information, add keywords (a prototype of modern hashtags), and correspond.
At the same time, it’s funny that posting a message was 25 cents, and reading is free. In those same years, the BBS messaging system began to be used - the first forums were born. In the 80s, the so-called Usenet gained popularity - a forum for scientific discussions "on interest".
6. Cordless Phones
The inventor of the phone, Alexander Bell, managed to come up with a photophone, which used light to transmit sound, and not electricity at all. Together with his partner Tainter, they made the first call based on her sunlight in the 80th year. To fix the rays, a transmitter and a special mirror were used.
Unfortunately, the scientist’s project turned out to be ill-conceived, since sunlight was easy to block or scatter, so such a wireless telephone form of communication was unstable. But it is Bell who can be attributed the authorship of the prototype fiber.
5. Electric cars
Surprisingly, it is a fact - the first electric cars began to appear in the mid-19th century in England, France and America. The first successful instance was a 6-seater car, which moved at a speed of up to 23 km / h.
By the end of the century, electric cars were 10 times more popular than gasoline cars! Travel on such vehicles was limited to cities where there were power sources. The “death blow” to the production of electric cars was caused by the following factors: the desire to travel by car, cheap and affordable fuel, and the cheapening of gasoline cars.
4. 3D printing
Today, 3D printers are actively used in everyday life, medicine, manufacturing and even space technology. Did you know that the 3D printing technique itself has existed for about 30 years? The report on the first working prototype dates back to 1981. Then, to obtain solid materials, photopolymers were used.
In 1984, Charles Hull joined the printing technology with laser irradiation of photopolymers, which made it possible to obtain plastic according to the design coordinates. In 1992, the powder base replaced the liquid base.
3. 3D movies
3D movies have nothing to do with printers, which have actually been around for almost a century! The first fashion for such films was in the 50s - this is how 3D glasses and 3D comics appeared. And if you return before 1936, you can find the first 3D film called Audioscopics, which even won the award.
To obtain a three-dimensional image, a blue-red color scheme was used. But we can roll back even earlier until 1922, when the film The Power of Love was shown. To view it, anaglyph glasses and the usual blue-red scheme were offered.
2. Mobile phones
The first smartphones did not appear at all in the late 90s, as many people think. The first call on the prototype of a mobile device dates from the post-war 1946, when Bell Labs offered a whole cordless phone service in 100 cities. The use of technology was restrained by an expensive monthly fee ($ 15) and up to 40 cents per call.
Such equipment weighed about 36 kg - wow the "mobile" version! A more functional prototype appeared in 1922 and was a crystalline radio with a specific antenna umbrella.
1. Video games
Many attribute the history of video games to Pong (1972). But it became known that in 1958, the Higigotem doctor in the process of research created the first Tennis for Two game. A kind of ball (point of light) flew across the field with a grid in the middle.
The instrument screen is a 12.7 cm oscilloscope controlled by a box with a handle. However, even before this game in 1948, a rocket simulator was popular, which could be played on an electron-beam computer mounted in a cabinet.
These “forgotten” inventions in the modern world are gaining popularity again. I wonder what the first authors of ideas would say to this?
